Bees to win mid-table battle

Macclesfield v Barnet

Macclesfield play host to a mid-table scrap at Moss Rose on Saturday when they welcome Barnet to Lancashire.

Sitting in 20th position in the league, Town can relax going into this game, safe in the knowledge that they have managed to avoid the drop out of the Football League this season.

The home side have not made things easy for themselves in the second half of the season, managing to pick up just four wins since the start of January.

Their worst spell saw them lose five on the bounce in March and will want to put a halt to their current run of defeats in a row.

The latest of these defeats came away to fellow Lancashire side, Bury last weekend.

The Silkmen were comprehensively beaten as promotion hunting Bury hit three past their opponents.

An early Andy Bishop strike and two goals from Glynn Hurst the home side a comfortable victory.

Barnet have not fared too much better than their weekend opponents, they are only five points better off than Macclesfield as things currently stand.

Despite their current standings, Barnet have been in far better form than Macclesfield.

Barnet have now gone six consecutive games without suffering a defeat, a sequence of results that includes three wins on the bounce.

However, the Bees have only managed to get draws in each of their previous two fixtures, the latest of which came at home to already relegated Luton Town.

The one goal a piece draw at Barnet’s Underhill stadium came despite the home side grabbing the advantage right on half-time thanks to an Adam Birchall goal.

The lead did not last long though as Luton replied just four minutes into the second half with a goal from centre half, Rossi Jarvis.

With both sides clear of relegation, there is only pride to be played for at Moss Rose and Barnet’s superior form of late is likely to be the catalyst for an away win.

Verdict: Macclesfield 0-2 Barnet
